007: Virgo New Moon - A Fresh Start Before Eclipse Season
Hi, and welcome to another episode of Lunar Love Notes. Today's episode, we are going to talk about the New Moon in Virgo that occurs on Friday, August 22nd. Now, there are a few things that are very unique about. This new moon that aren't even related to the chart that the moon takes place in. The first thing that's significant about it is that it's actually one of two Virgo new moons that we will have this year.
So the sun enters Virgo on August 22nd, and just a few hours later, we have this new moon in Virgo. It's at zero degrees of Virgo. So like the very. Very first degree of the sign of Virgo. And then a month later on September 21st, we have another New Moon in Virgo. And that New Moon is actually a solar eclipse.
It's a new moon, solar eclipse, and that one takes place at 29 degrees of Virgo. So like the very last degree of Virgo. So we kind of are Bookending Virgo season here with. These two new moons. And then I just mentioned that we're gonna be having an eclipse in a month. And this, this new moon that we have on Friday is actually the last loo nation before eclipse season.
It marks the beginning of eclipse season because then in two weeks we'll have the full moon lunar eclipse in Pisces. Um. That I did not write down the date for, but it's in two weeks. Two weeks from Friday. And so we're like entering the Eclipse portal as we move through this new moon. Okay. So having these two Virgo new moons.
Can be really supportive, especially going into eclipse season because we kind of can take stock of, at the beginning of what we think we want to call in we, we have this opportunity to set an intention. A new moon is always, you know, a new beginning, a fresh start, something. We have this blank space.
What are we gonna fill this blank space with? And so we can kind of. Have some initial thoughts about that. And then Eclipse season is such a has the potential to have massive change, massive transformation in our lives. It's a time where things can happen really quickly. Really big things can happen much faster than we thought they would.
A lot of times those big pivots in our lives take place during eclipse season. Now obviously we, we have two eclipse seasons each year, and every eclipse season is not life changing because that would be just very destabilizing to have life changing events every six months. But depending on your unique NATO chart, like this could be.
Eclipse season, that's really significant for you. Or it just might be not necessarily the same as a retrograde energy, but that like kind of like keeping you on your toes. Things don't necessarily go the way we expect them to. A retrograde is more disorienting, I think. And Eclipse season is just a lot more rapid.
And the invitations are more significant because eclipses take place on the, the nodes of fate, the axis of the nodes of fate, and it's, they have karmic significance. So our shifts in our personal growth during eclipse season is more significant, more like powerful than at other times. Okay. But that's enough of that.
This is not an Eclipse episode. I will do an episode about Eclipse season. And then it, well, it'll either be a podcast episode or it might just be written on Substack. So make sure that you are. Subscribed on Sub Substack. And then I also am doing eclipse season readings. These will be a video recorded reading that you'll receive in your inbox.
Um, there'll be about half an hour long, and I will break down each of the two eclipses and what is going on in your chart and what you can kind of expect. What areas of life have the potential for transformation? During these eclipses. Okay, now let's get into the chart. I mentioned at the beginning that this new moon takes place at zero degrees of Virgo.
And so this is very like zero degrees is already kind of a fresh start energy, and then the fact that it's also a new moon kind of compounds that like new beginning. We're in a new sign. We've moved from Leo into Virgo, Leo. We kind of reconnected with what we care most about, what we're super passionate about, what we want to commit to because we care about it so much.
And then in Virgo we can kind of refine and perfect that thing that we really care about. How can we do this to the best of our ability? How can we refine, reorganize, hone our skills, find the most efficient way to do it. Virgo cares a lot about conserving time, money, and energy. We, we kind of can clarify goals, clarify workflows.
It's all about like making controlled adjustments. Um, when I was in college I did psychology and we had, we would run experiments in the psych lab and we would do a cycle of experiments and then look at the data. Decide what we thought might be different and we would change like one teeny tiny thing to see if that made a difference.
And we would have it, it would all be like under really tight control so that if that teeny, if that one thing that we changed did make a difference, we could say with certainty that. The difference was because of that one thing that we changed, and that's totally the Virgo energy. It's all about like controlling the environment so that we can really hone in on what is making a difference, what we can keep, what we can get rid of.
And so it, it is, while it is a mutable sign, mutable signs like change, Virgo wants change that is within our control. We are change that has like a very clear purpose and direction because we have these goals. We want to be, we, we don't wanna be making a change that is not necessary. We don't wanna make a change.
That wasn't our own idea. It's all about. Like deliberate refinement in that, that Virgo energy. Okay. Now let's see what else is going on in this chart. So the sun and the moon are both at that zero degree point in Virgo. Right now, Virgo is ruled by Mercury. That's a traditional ruler, and Mercury is still in its post retrograde shadow phase.
So we had. Probably one of the most chaotic mercury retrogrades that I can remember in late July and into August. And we, at the time of this new moon, mercury is almost out of the post retrograde shadow. The retrograde shadow ends on the 25th, so this new moon takes place on a Friday, and then the retrograde shadow ends the following Monday.
So just a few days later. So we're still kind of receiving that clarity, that integration from what we experienced with the retrograde in Leo. But you know, we're near the tail end of that, so most likely there's. Like pretty confident clarity for the most part. There might be a few pieces that are still falling into place.
But in Leo this Mercury is, you know, very passionate, very driven by like those things that are connected to our heart, um. And then some astrologers, including myself, also look to Chiron as a ruler of Virgo because Chiron is a healer and Virgo is also a healer, especially physical healing.
And Chiron is an Aries during this new moon. So both of these rulers of Leo or of Mercury are in fire signs. And Chiron. Chiron's, our wounded healer. So this is like that place within ourselves that really hurts. That's the place that we need to show love and nurturing to in order to heal it. And then from that same place is where our greatest gift for healing others will come from.
But with both of these ruling planets in fire, this can tone down a little bit, that need for control that Virgo can have. Because fire signs are more impulsive, more willing to take risk maybe a little bit more like spicy than earth signs. And so that these are both influencing the planets.
The sun, the moon that are in Virgo during this new Moon, and then also through part of the Virgo season. It's just kind of like this carryover from Leo season, which is more I. Not necessarily impulsive, but definitely like heart led. If I feel that I really need this thing's really important to me, I'm gonna go after it.
Whereas Virgo is gonna look at, okay, what makes the most sense? What is. Most likely going to improve the outcome, a much more practical approach. So this will kind of soften that practicality, at least at the beginning of Virgo season. Now the main aspect that the New Moon is making is it is.
Squaring Uranus in Gemini. So Gemini is another mutable sign, but Gemini is definitely not that like controlled adjustments. It is much more chaotic. Exploratory, experimental, more in the way of let's do it and see what happens. Not experiment. Like in the psych lab, the ex, the, those types of experiences that I was describing earlier Gemini is like throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks right.
And this can be really uncomfortable. Squares usually are uncomfortable, and that's because Uranus. Kind of is compounding that Gemini unpredictability that, maybe destabilizing a bit things are happening that we did not plan. We are having to adjust changes happening that like kind of happening to us.
And that can be very. Uncomfortable. We, we really want our routines to work during Virgo season. Virgo loves a routine, or at least like a daily flow. And this Uranus in Gemini is kind of upsetting that. And so that can bring a lot of discomfort. And so the invitation with this square is to lean in to.
Like adaptability and you know, trying not to judge change as negative when it comes from outside ourselves. Instead, see how can we use that Virgo energy to make the best of it? How can we, flow with this change and still maybe come out? Something that works even better than what we had before that change occurred.
Hopefully that made sense. That was kind of wordy. Okay. Now that's the only aspect that the new moon's making. It's, you know, it's conjunct the sun and then it's making a square to Uranus in Gemini. Now we also have going on in the chart at the same time. Venus is up to quite a bit. So Venus is in the late degrees of cancer and it's making an opposition to Pluto, which is in the early degrees of Aquarius.
So it's kind of entering this opposition because as Venus moves through these last few degrees of cancer and then enters Leo, this opposition will be exact. But when we have Venus making an opposition or even a square with Pluto, we can feel really small. We can feel, for me, it comes up as like this, like wounded princess energy.
Like I don't have any power and like nothing goes my way. Like kind of pouting. Like people take things away from me and there's nothing I can do about it. There's can feel very like insecure. And then we can kind of like want to. Lash out or like be petty in a, in an attempt to like reclaim power.
'cause Pluto represents power. And when it's opposite us, that means that the power is outside of us. That's our experience. It feels like someone else is holding power over us. And when that's happening to Venus, it really doesn't feel good. And then at the same time, Venus is making a square to Chiron, so that makes it feel even worse because Chiron is our wounds.
Something that just really doesn't feel good. And so, you know, this might bring back. Feelings from earlier in life where we felt unworthy or we felt powerless, you know, maybe things from childhood when we really were powerless. In many ways, those can come up. And so it's just a time to really like, take good care of yourself and like journal through any feelings that come up because it can be very uncomfortable.
Venus is our, our planet that helps us feel good. So when it's kind of under attack, we don't feel good. Um, now there is some support for Venus during this chart. Venus is making a trine to Neptune and Saturn in Aries. Now Chiron is in late degrees of Aries, but Saturn and Neptune are the very early degrees of Aries.
So that's why this is a supportive aspect. And Neptune and Saturn in Aries are kind of helping us, romanticize commit to and really just know our identities, our authenticity. Aries is a sign that calls us to know ourselves, to claim ourselves, to show up as ourselves. And so this is kind of.
Like a comfort and reaffirming the importance of the self, even when it feels like we can't do that much outside of ourselves. So it's kind of like, turning inward. Venus is in cancer, so we we're, retreating into what feels comfortable and reaffirming, like even if I. Don't have control over this thing that's happening in my life that, you know, someone else has power or things that are just happening in the world have more power than me.
I am still committed to who I am. I'm going to, I'm not gonna. Abandon or sacrifice myself, what's important to me, even when I'm feeling this way. Okay. And then our last aspect that I wanna touch on during this new moon is that Mercury, which is that other planet ruling. The moon is in Leo and it's making a sex tile, which is a gently supportive aspect to Mars, which is in Libra.
Now, Leo and Libra work really well together. This is very like harmonious. Like creative collaboration, it's like creating art or like theater or music with other people who have like a very shared or aligned passion. It's very fun. It can bring some confidence, you know, we are. Creating with others.
We are brainstorming with others and it's a, it can really help us. Also in these last few days of that Mercury post retrograde shadow, this collaboration can kind of help us. Gain clarity on what our Mercury retrograde lessons and experiences were. You know, sometimes when we go through a retrograde that is like really intense, we just wanna kind of forget about it afterwards.
But especially when it's Mercury, which is the mind which rules communication. It's really important for us to put into words either with someone else. Or with our, pen to paper what we went through, what like insights we gained, what changes we are going to make, because that really brings it through the conscious mind.
Sometimes the retrograde doesn't fully make it to the conscious mind until we put it into words. And that's really what the retrograde is, is meant to help us refine is the conscious mind. Okay, so those are the, that's the astrology of this. New Moon. And how can we work with this? Like what, what does that all mean?
How can we kind of pull all of that together? I have a few things to touch on that kind of help wrap it all up. So the first one is that we are wanting to refine and adjust our systems, our workflows, our habits, but we are not aiming for perfection. Virgo is. One of those signs that through that process of improvement, we can get stuck in that constantly improving where we never allow the thing to be done because we can always see one way that it could get a little bit better.
And that's really procrastination, right? Perfectionism. Most of the time is procrastination because we are scared of saying that something's done. Okay. And then chaos. If things kind of feel unsettled with that Uranus energy. Instead of like gripping tightly to what you can control and like avoiding looking at the chaos, which I think is the, that Virgo energy can kind of bring that instinct up in us.
When we see something chaotic, we just wanna not engage with it instead, try to kind of connect with it, allow that Gemini curiosity. To come in and to see like, what message does this chaos bring? What is being invited into change here? How can I work with this rather than becoming really tense and avoiding it?
All right. With that Venus Tension Energy, that Wounded Princess, like, I'm so small, we just want to allow that to kind of show us maybe wounds from earlier in life that we, where we felt powerless, where we felt like someone else. Was calling the shots like we weren't worth calling the shots, or we didn't have the power to call the shots and just take note of those because those are things to, you know, stay aware of and continue working through and rewiring so that they're not quite so uncomfortable when they come up the next time.
And then that and then to kind of come in on the other side of Venus to provide that support, we. Really lean into our commitments to ourselves. Maybe have like a little routine that affirms who you are. Maybe it's like you're meditating or you're pulling cards in the morning and that's helping you remember that you are very intuitive and creative, even if you then have to go sit at a desk and plug in numbers for eight hours, right?
Okay. And then to kind of work with that Mercury and Mars energy, we're going to lead into collaboration. We are going to have interesting conversations. We can like maybe ask someone like, how has your creative life changed over the last month? Did you have blocks? Did you have new ideas? You know, whatever it is.
Okay. And that is the. Energy, the tips that I've got for us for today. Now remember, this is just the first of two Virgo new moons that we have this year. The next one will be on September 21st. So that's the day before the fall equinox, and it's a solar eclipse. This is our last new Moon before Eclipse season.
So starting on the 23rd, we are in the Eclipse portal and there'll be more on that, what that all means coming soon. We are nearing the end of the Mercury post retrograde shadow, and so spend some time connecting with. That experience to, you know, make sure that you've really brought that clarity into words in some way.
And yeah. Check out the substack. Post for more on the Eclipse season. I will still do these Lunar Love Note podcast episodes for each of the individual eclipses, but I'm thinking that the Eclipse season overview will be written, um, just to make it easier to reference throughout. The eclipse season, and then also go check out those eclipse season readings.
Especially, you know, if you have Virgo and Pisces Energy in your chart especially if your north and south node are in Virgo and Pisces. Either way, you know, north node. This EC season is really significant for you. Yeah, and I hope you guys have a great and happy.
